The Fifty-Cent Piece (Ghost Story)-A New York Folktale(Weekend Post)

This story was retold by S.E. Schlosser and is told in Troy and Albany, New York. This story was about a couple coming back from a trip in New England. They were driving home in a carriage with a light to lead them through the darkness. Unfortunately, the light died, but to their surprise, a hill with a house was at the top. They went to the house to find shelter, whee an elderly couple showed them great hospitality, and when the couple tried to pay them back for their great hospitality they didn't want to take it, they just wanted to show their love towards them. The next morning, they crept out of the house and left them a fifty-cent coin. They went to a diner nearby to eat, and a curious waitress asked where they just came from, and the couple told them the house down the road. The waitress told them the house was actually burnt down for the pass three years. Then, they debated until the decided to go to the house. When they arrived, they saw a burnt down house and the remains of it was a fifty cent coin which they left for the couple the night before, and because she was scared, the wife began to scream.
